Spring Makeup Bag Reset: What I Learned from @organizethatwitheffyterry

Spring Makeup Bag Reset: What I Learned from @organizethatwitheffyterry

There is something about spring that makes you look around and realize… okay, how did all of this stuff end up here?

And honestly, makeup can become one of the biggest clutter zones.

So recently, I had the absolute pleasure of spending time with Effy. We filmed content together, I did her makeup of course, and then she helped me organize my own beauty space.

She is a total Cheekbone warrior. Very simple, effortless, no-makeup makeup energy. The kind of person who wants to feel polished without needing a 45-minute routine. And honestly? That is exactly how I approach beauty most days too.

After I finished her makeup, she looked incredible. Soft skin, healthy glow, easy definition. But then she turned her attention to my makeup setup… and immediately pointed out something really important:

Most clutter is actually delayed decisions.

That one hit me hard.

Tip #1: Edit Before You Organize

Most people think they need better storage. Bigger drawers. More containers.

But Effy explained that organizing really starts with editing.

Before you buy acrylic bins or another makeup organizer, ask yourself:

  • What do I actually use every day?
  • What fits my current routine?
  • What products realistically support my lifestyle right now?

For me, my everyday makeup routine is extremely simple:

  • Illuminating Primer
  • Unify Complexion Pencils
  • Moondust Setting Powder
  • Mascara
  • Smoky Quartz Eyeshadow
  • Lip Oil or Bare Lip Balm
  • Fair Blush Bronzer

That’s it.

That is the makeup I reach for almost every single day. Smoky Quartz alone can become eyeliner, shadow, soft definition… honestly the MVP of busy mornings.

Effy helped me separate my everyday essentials from my content and work products, which immediately made everything feel calmer.

Tip #2: Organize Around Your Real Life

One of the smartest things Effy said was this:

Create systems based on how you actually live, not how you wish you lived.

That is such a powerful reminder.

I don’t like products sitting all over my counter, but I do need easy access to my daily routine. So instead of creating some picture-perfect setup that would never last, she helped create a practical system I could actually maintain.

My everyday products now live in one easy-access space that feels clean, simple, and realistic for busy mornings.

Then separately, we organized all of the Cheekbone Beauty SKUs we use for content creation, product education, campaigns, and filming. Those products matter too, but I only need access to them about once a week.

Not everything needs prime real estate.

That alone changes everything.

Tip #3: Small Progress Creates Momentum

The biggest mistake people make is waiting for the “perfect” day to organize.

You know the one:

  • when you have more time
  • when life slows down
  • when you feel motivated
  • when the house is quiet

That day rarely comes.

Effy reminded me that small consistent progress creates momentum incredibly fast.

One makeup bag, or drawer, or shelf.

That is enough to start.

And honestly, the emotional relief that comes from reducing visual clutter is very real. Especially for women juggling work, family, routines, stress, and trying to take care of themselves in the middle of all of it.

The Best Makeup Bag Is the One You Actually Use

The funniest part of this whole experience is that after organizing everything, I realized I actually wear less makeup than people probably expect from a beauty founder.

But I think that is the beauty of getting older and understanding yourself better.

You stop chasing complicated.

You start choosing products, routines, and systems that genuinely support your life.

So thank you to Effy for helping me create a beauty setup that feels calmer, easier, and more functional.

Now it’s your turn, Cheekbone warrior community.

This spring, don’t focus on perfection. Focus on creating a makeup routine and space that actually works for you.
